Types of Time-table

The different curricular and co-curricular activities in a school make it necessary to have different kinds of time-tables. A single time-table with comprehensive details will not serve the purpose of carrying out efficient functioning of a school. Therefore, a school maintains the following types of time-table.

1. Class time-table
It is a time-table designed for each class. It shows the distribution of subjects among the teachers with the periods for handling those subjects. It indicates the intervals in between the teaching periods. Further, it shows the time allotted for games and other co-curricular activities. All the classes of a school follow their respective class time-tables and have a copy of the same in their class rooms.

2. Teacher’s Time-table
Every teacher in a school maintains time-table showing the details of his academic work and other educational activities. It also shows his vacant periods.

3. Vacant Periods Time-table
This is a special kind of time-table kept by the head master. It shows the vacant periods of all the teachers. It is useful in allotting extra work to teachers when someone is absent.

4. Games Time-table
It is necessary for providing opportunities to pupils of all classes to participate in sports, games, and other physical activities. It shows details of facilities offered to children for such activities together with the time and places for the same.

5. Co-curricular Activities Time-table
Co-curricular activities time-table shows the various co-curricular activities offered in the school, along with the names of teachers responsible for implementing such activities. Time and place for carrying out the activities are also shown in the time-table.

6. Consolidated time-table
Consolidated time-table is also referred to as the ‘General timetable’ of a school. It shows a complete picture of the entire educational programme that is to be carried out every day. It is the sum total of all the class time-tables. At the same time it is a record of every teacher’s daily work with regard to his curricular and co-curricular activities together with the vacant periods allotted to him. This time table is generally meant for the headmaster.

7. Homework time-table
It shows the amount of home-work to be set by each teacher to the class or classes in his subject during a week. It also shows the dates of submission of assignments by the students. Such a timetable is prepared well in advance so as to reduce strain and fatigue on the part of the students. It is desirable to prepare the time-table in duplicate. One is to be put up in the class room for ready reference of the teachers and the other is to be sent to the parents for securing their co-operation in this regard.
