Branched or Intrinsic Programming

Branched programming, was initially developed for use in an electronic training device for military personnel. In this technique, the student is provided with a piece of information, then a situation requiring a multiple choice or recognition response is presented before student, and on the basis of that choice instructs the student to proceed to another frame, where the student learns if the earlier choice was correct or not.
If not, student learns why not. Then, the student who responded incorrectly will be returned to the original frame. Sometimes, student may be redirected to a remedial programme to rectify the wrong choice. Only the student who selects correct choice, advances to the next frame in the program. This procedure is repeated at each step of the program, and a student gets a comprehensive coverage of the topic which gets adapted to his needs and knowledge level.
